Accountant is one of U.S. News and World Report "100 Best Jobs of 2013." Accountants update and maintain accounting records, including those which calculate expenditures, receipts, accounts payable and receivable, and profit and loss. These workers have a wide range of skills from full-charge bookkeepers, who can maintain an entire company's books, to accounting clerks who handle specific tasks.
Education and training: Most accountant and auditor positions require at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Some employers prefer applicants with a master's degree in accounting, or with a master's degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting. Online universities and colleges offer accounting programs to prepare students to work in growing specialty professions such as internal auditing. Many professional associations offer continuing professional education courses, conferences, and accounting seminars.
As the global economy continues to expand there is a growing need for accounting professionals in many aspects of the industry. However, not everyone can afford to take the time to attend a traditional college and many are turning to online colleges for accounting degrees. With many online schools offering accredited courses, online accounting degrees are becoming more accepted by more employers.
Students, including non-traditional ones, no longer need to sit through countless hours of classes, which according to some have little to do with their future plans, and find that it can take less time to earn their accountant degrees online. However, even after successfully completing their degree program, most states require them to pass exams before they can become certified as an accountant or a fiduciary.
The biggest advantage of attending online colleges for accounting is being able to take the courses at home at their own pace. The classes will still have deadlines in which the work must be completed but students do not have to worry about being in a classroom at a specific time. They can maintain their current job while attending classes either before or after their regular job as well as on weekends when they have time off from work.
